FISHERIES VALUE OF WATER OBJECTS IN URBAN PART OF PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMHATSKY

Several small streams, including Krutoberyega, Kaban and Kirpichnaya-Khalaktyrka, situated in the urban part of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, were examined. Fish communities in the streams were almost absent due to a hard pollution and a number of artificial obstacles for migrating. Fisheries and recreational value can be restored in the case of total systemic liquidation of all technogenic sources of harm.

EARLY MARINE PERIOD BIOCHEMICAL INDEXES AND RATE OF GAMETOGENESIS OF JUVENILE SOCKEYE SALMON IN THE OKHOTSK SEA WATERS ADJACENT KAMCHATKA IN 2005–2007

Individual interannual differences in the concentration of chemical elements in juvenile body and in gonad development rate were studied on the base of analysis of gonad development data and of the dynamics of biochemical indexes of juvenile sockeye salmon muscles during the first year of life in the waters off West Kamchatka for 2005–2007. It was found that conditions of life in freshwater period were still influencing the biochemical indexes and the juvenile gametogenesis during early months at sea. Juvenile sockeye salmon, emerged from Kurilskoye Lake in 2006 and 2007, in the terms of more intense work of population factor and hence in the terms of less biomass of forage organisms demonstrated accelerated  growth in the coastal zone, comparing to smolts, emerged in 2005. Metabolic processes, intensified at the expense of spending more energy, decreased lipid component in the protein-fat balance. That was accompanied with an increase of protein in the juvenile bodies. Gametogenesis was answering the transformations of the biochemical indexes. Marine juvenile sockeye salmon in 2006 and 2007 demonstrated later ovary development, comparing to female smolts in 2005. In July 2006 and 2007 the principle number of gametes of juvenile sockeye salmon was made up of oocytes at three early phases of previtellogenesis with dominance of the 3-rd phase. In 2005 we observed consequent transformation of some of the oocytes to the oocytes of the 4-th phase of cytoplasmatic growth along with parallel increasing the gamete sizes.

BIOLOGICAL STRUCTURE AND TRENDS OF STOCK ABUNDANCE DYNAMICS OF CHUM SALMON (ONCORHYNCHUS KETA) IN THE BOLSHAYA VOROVSKAYA RIVER, WEST KAMCHATKA

Long-term data (1991–2010) on the dynamics of chum salmon biological data in the Bolshaya Vorovskaya River are performed for the first time. Data on the dynamics of catches, density in spawning grounds and runs of chum salmon in the basin of the river are provided. It is demonstrated that the dynamics of chum salmon generation abundance in this river depends on the abundance of pink salmon spawned in the year of chum salmon parental stock spawning.

OSMOTIC RESISTANCE OF ERYTHROCYTES OF PERIPHERAL BLOOD OF JUVENILE CHUM (ONCORHYNCHUS KETA)

Osmotic resistances of erythrocytes of peripheral blood of juvenile chum populations in the rivers of the Okhotsk sea-shore of Magadan region and juvenile chum from different areas with different salinity of water basin of Olski estuary are determined.  Osmotic resistance of blood erythrocytes of wild juvenile chum from different rivers varies insignificantly and makes up OR-min 0,42; OR-max 0,26%. Osmotic resistance of blood erythrocytes to the hypotonic solution of sodium chloride of chum is raised at the hatcheries located in the pre-estuary zone and juvenile chum from sea areas makes up OR-min 0,54; OR-max 0,42% of sodium chloride, what is much lower compared to those of limnetic young chum during downstream migration. Changing of osmotic resistance is adaptive and connected with the change in erythrocytes that is the formation of new ones with membranes adapted to the already changed conditions of the habitat. The study of osmotic resistance of erythrocytes of salmon is interesting for evaluating the successfulness of the process of smoltification within the early sea period.

FEEDING BY SAFFRON COD (ELEGINUS GRACILIS) FROM DECEMBER TO APRIL IN OSSORA BAY

Data on feeding by saffron cod (December–April) in Ossora Bay are demonstrated. Amount of food in stomach and food composition are demonstrated for every month. It is demonstrated that the basis of consumed food in this bay consists of fish viscera and the other residuals after factory processing of caught fish.

SEX-AGE STRUCTURE OF STELLER SEA LION (EUMETOPIAS JUBATUS)  IN THE COMMANDER ISLANDS, 2008–2009

Resighting data on Steller sea lion (Eumetopias jubatus, Schreber, 1776) branded as pup in the Commander Islands collected in 2008–2009 in the Northern Pacific. Analysis shows the age cohort of yearlings was the biggest among all age groups. The number of animals of age 2–3 years resighted during study period was considerably lower than number of yearlings and 4–5 year olds. After age 5 each following age cohort was decreasing in number than previous one. The number of animals older than 11–12 years old was extremely low. There was no any pattern of sex prevalence in juvenile age cohorts (younger than 4 years). In age groups of 4 years and older, with the exception of 6 and 7 years old, females were prevailing over males. The prevalence of females over males was greater in elder cohort (over 7 years) and increased with age. The current age and sex structure is may be responsible for sharp inter-annual changes in pup production of Steller sea lions breeding in the Commander Islands.

NATUREL MATURATION, CYCLIC STAGES AND GONAD MATURATION STAGE SCALING FOR WALLEYE POLLOCK (THERAGRA HALCOGRAMMA)

Gonad weight dynamics and gonad-somatic index in the course of maturation have been analyzed, and oocyte size structure for walleye pollock of different stages of ovary maturation has been clarified. State of male and female gametes in the course of gametogenesis and some of deviations from oocyte normal development were examined. Cycle of walleye pollock maturation has been demonstrated, and scale of gonad maturation stages has provided.

AN ASSESSMENT OF KING CRAB PARALITHODES CAMTSCHATICUS (TILESIUS) STOCK ABUNDANCE WITHIN WEST-KAMCHATKA LICENCED PARCEL

On the base of trawl surveys, carried out on the West Kamchatka shelf in July and August 2009–2010, an assessment of the abundance of king crab individuals by their size-functional groups was made, and plots of maximal aggregations of the crabs were figured out.
Using contouring benchmark stations on the West Kamchatka licensed parcel, where oil and gas deposited are planned to developing, there was provided an assessment of king crab abundance, evaluation of the part of king crab stock abundance in the West Kamchatka licensed

VALUATION OF ECONOMIC FUNCTIONS OF SPECIES DIVERSITY OF SALMON BASIN KAMCHATKA RIVER

The article demonstrates the historical analysis of the dynamics and structure of salmon species diversity of the Kamchatka River basin. The deterioration in the modern structure of these species of fishes in the basin in terms of total profitability of their operation is marked. The method of direct valuation of proper economic functions of salmon species diversity, as well as forming a diversity of conditions of reproduction of salmon in the basin is substantiated. The results of practical evaluation of influence of the conservation measures of salmon species diversity on the economic efficiency of their industrial operation on the example of the most abundant in the basin salmon species (sockeye and chum salmon) are given.
An assumption of managing ability to the ratio of these species in the basin, in order to utilize more fully its reproductive capacity and to improve the overall profitability salmon fishery is put forward.
